@ dylan: It's just normal Lego-Bricks, you get them from sets or the online-marketplace Bricklink
You're community might be impressed and surprised by how many Lego space models have been directly inspired by this site.
Found this blog these days, through my LEGO passion and got deeply amazed.
It came to fill something I was missing in my imaginary.
