The method of production for these images was as follows: initial sketches of ship ideas focusing on the face of the ship and some wing configurations...then I grey modeled the vehicles in Max, solving a lot of issues that would have taken a dozen drawings. Once the shape worked well in 3d I brought them back into Photoshop and did detail paintovers and color schemes. This worked great and I ended up designing all of the vehicles this way in Reach.

These are beautiful! I want to Kuler those Covenant ships for colours ;)

I love using 3d models as part of my workflow too. Making some rough 3d builds really helps determine what would work in "real life" and saves a lot of time.
