Probably because he focuses more on human anatomy and ridiculous sexual story lines than actual technical ideas... Which I am way more found of.

Now... With that said... His understanding of anatomy is undeniable and it's hard to argue the fact that the guy draws beautifully, even if the material is most def not appropriate for the younger reader.

There are a lot of artists on this big planet and each one of them is going to represent themselves in their own individual way in which they will be remembered after they pass. For whatever reason, Serpieri chose this path and will leave behind a collection of sci-fi pornographic sequential comic book format art.

However, it would be a very mundane world if all artists tackled the same subject matter or were restricted to a certain box or "code of ethics". One could even argue that keeping within an "acceptable" rating system tends to hinder works of art and even steer them in a very obvious and repetitive manner that makes them transparent... I call it Pepsi ad safe art. Very commercial, so that it appeals to as many people as possible. I don't think we'll be seeing Drunna on the cover of a Pepsi can anytime soon:)

Which brings me back to why I posted his work. As nice and Pepsi ad safe friendly as this blog has been, I can't pass up my artistic integrity to include some of this man's masterful technical illustrated works. I hope you understand my point. Thanks!

P.S. Just because Serpieri was not a big influence on my art does not mean that I didn't find his accurate renderings inspirational. A lot of us aspire to be able to draw that well... It's just that most of us will never get there.

Great discussion on Serpieri's art
RIGHT HEREAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
